8 Steps To Help You Write Your Ebook!

Part 5

In an ebook that is read on the screen, be aware that you must give your reader's eye a break. You can do this by utilizing white space. In art classes, white space is usually referred to as "negative space." Reader's eyes need to rest in the cool white oasis's you create on your page. If your page is too dense, your reader will quit out of it as soon as their eyes begin to tear.

Make use of lists, both bulleted and numbered. This makes your information easy to absorb, and gives the reader a mental break from dissecting your paragraphs one after the other.

8. Finally, decide on an easy-to-read design. Find a font that's easy on the eyes, and stick to that font family. Using dozens of fonts will only tire your reader out before they've gotten past your introduction. Use at least one and a half line spacing, and text large enough to read easily on the screen, but small enough so that the whole page can be seen on a computer screen. You will have to experiment with this to find the right combination.

Of course, don't forget to run a spell and grammar check. You are judged by something as minor as correct punctuation, so don't mess up a great book by tossing out semicolons randomly, or stringing sentences together with commas. (By the way, that's called a "comma splice.")

Don't forget, create an index and a bibliography. That's it! You've written a book! Now all you have to do is publish your ebook online, and wait for download requests from your website visitors.

Thank you for reading, now it is your turn to write. Please leave a comment for use to read. See we take turns.

Hi Deanna and Dan ..

Ah ah .. thanks for the note on index and bibliography .. good points. I probably would have done it .. but the bibliography is another way of looking at things ..

White space too ...

My conversational style will be interesting to deal with ..!

Yes - I like short paragraphs .. as in my blog .. I hate long, long paras - you can't read them easily, let alone understand them - if that's what you're trying to do .. sometimes I struggle - not with yours!! others ..

Point 8 - what about page size etc .. if you've got pictures, as I do? Also what about video?

Heaen help me with the grammar .. it's so conversational - perhaps it doesn't matter .. as it'll be that sort of book?

Thank you ..

Hilary, photos add interest to the ebook, just as they do in your blog. Use them. Videos as well. They work as well as the white page to help the eyes when reading.

Be yourself. Use your style to your advantage not as a disadvantage. People like your blog they will like your ebooks as well.

Hi Dan & Deanna,

The points that were helpful information was the use of the white space and the use of bullets.

The bottom line is to make it easy for them to read! Probably will result in a higher readership and sales.

Thank you for your post!
