Even if your friend owns a top publishing company, giving you an immediate "in," this does not guarantee publishing success.
First, you have to write a quality book that has a clear target audience. And your ebook must answer a common problem or need that the audience shares. Then you have to develop a marketing plan, and stick to it for at least two years.
Let's begin with the process that should commence before you write your first word. Begin by reading a LOT. Read both books you passionately love and books you can't seem to make it past five. Then figure what the author did in the book you loved, and what was wrong with in the book you couldn't finish. Write down these points so they are crystal clear to you. Read other people's ebooks for inspiration and to discover what you should avoid as a writer.
The next step is to plan out your ebook. Narrow down your subject, and then divide it into chapters. Each chapter should address a specific aspect of the problem your ebook is going to solve. In each chapter, break the specific aspects down into several parts. This will help your reader take in your information a bit at a time instead of overwhelming them with every bit of information clogging up the pages until they feel like they're about to go blind. It's not quite spoon-feeding the information to your readers, but it's close.
The next two steps are obvious. Write your ebook and then revise it. And then revise it again. And perhaps again. Of course, writing is extremely hard, and writing an ebook can seem like an impossible task. There are many ebooks out there that give you guidelines to help you become familiar-and even love -the process of writing and revision. Find a number of books or ebooks about writing. Better yet, find a number of books or ebooks about writing the specific type of ebook you aspire to write. These can serve as a road map on your writing journey.

Hi Deanna & Dan
I like how you lay out all the detail about writing a book. E-book work the same way as a book. When we are writing we have to know who we are writing for.
Thanks for sharing.

Giovanna,
You are so right. You have to know how you are writing to and why you are writing. Thank you for stopping by. You always give such good comments.

Hi Dan & Deanna,
Thanks for the post on how to write an e-book. The thought of reading books you love versus books that you drag thru is very helpful.
Then you can put the positive points that you enjoyed into your e-book and hopefully not the bad.
Thanks for the informative post!

Hi Dan & Deanna,
I have been starting to be serious about writing. So, your article was very good advise. I agree that focused audience is important. The contents of Japanese American's interest is different from Japanese - Japanese who is interested in US.
Thank you for your nice sharing!

Hilary,
it is good to hear from you. Enjoy the videos when you can. They do not take very long to watch.

Shaw,
If you write for both groups separately, that doubles the amount of people that might be interested in what you have to say. You know both sides so you can write to both without a problem. Enjoy the writing.

Hi Dan and Deanna,
Thanks for the detailed advice on how to write a successful ebook. It's important to stay organized. Otherwise, there leaves room for rambling and getting off the important subject at hand.
We, too, like the idea of taking notes on why one book was so captivating while the other was not. Great advice as always!
Thank you! :-)
Many Blessings....

Hugo and Roxanna,
Thank you for your comments. It is best to stay organized, it does help to stay on track. And to know the difference between a good book that keeps your interest and one that does not is most important. Have a good day.
